Lewis Hamilton called his first drive in a Ferrari one of the best moments of his life. The 40-year-old British driver, who recently joined Ferrari, completed 30 laps at the team’s Fiorano track in foggy weather. His new two-year contract with Ferrari is worth over £100 million.

Last week, he tested a 2023 Ferrari car. Next, he will drive in Barcelona and then take part in official pre-season tests in Bahrain starting February 26. Hamilton, who began racing in Formula 1 in 2007, said starting the Ferrari made him smile like he did when he first drove an F1 car.

After leaving Mercedes, Hamilton spent a busy week meeting his new team in Maranello. Before his first drive, he shared a photo online wearing Ferrari’s red racing suit. The photo got 1.5 million likes in just one hour. He also showed a yellow helmet, similar to one he used when he was younger. Many fans came to watch him drive, and his family, including his father who worked hard to support his early career, joined him.

Hamilton wants to win his eighth world title and feels inspired by Ferrari’s passionate team and fans. He said, “I always knew Ferrari fans were passionate, but seeing it up close is amazing. Their energy makes me want to work even harder.”

After 12 years with Mercedes, his first race for Ferrari will be in Melbourne on March 16. Before that, he will present his new Ferrari car with teammate Charles Leclerc on February 19 in Maranello. Leclerc, who drove 14 laps after Hamilton, called the day a “special moment” for the team. Both drivers are excited to start preparing for the new season.
